Microsoft and Bungie Going Seperate Ways with Halo
Oct 8, 2007

There are as yet unconfirmed reports circulating the Internet that Bungie Studios and Microsoft are parting ways though Microsoft is keeping rights to the Halo name.

It really seems unbelievable but reports are circulating throughout the Internet that Microsoft and Bungie Studios are parting ways, just days after the launch of the blockbuster hit, Halo 3. According to the reports, Microsoft released Bungie Studios from it's ownership and the deal is done but Microsoft does not wish to make an announcement until after October 6th to protect its quarterly financial results.

According to reports, Bungie does not want to be tied down to indefinitely making Halo games and so as a result, Bungie shareholders bought back the studio name from Microsoft for an undisclosed cost while Microsoft retained the rights to the Halo franchise. Of course this means that we will likely never see the Master Chief on the Wii nor on the PS3.

When contacted by GameSHOUT, a spokesperson from Microsoft stated that "There's been no such announcement. We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is Halo 3." ...and there will not likely be anything official until after October 6th. After that point there be more information but until then Microsoft is being quiet on the subject.   [archive]
