Many internet specialists are becoming more aware that search engines are in for another fight in a new market. Local search and advertising are becoming the buzz words of today.
Companies such as Google are are starting to launch test programs that look for local information based on search intems the users provide. For example, searching for "pizza restaurant" in your town will probably give you results of local business websites or addresses.
What's all the fuss about?
It has come as a realization to advertisers and ads serving companies that many ads are really intended to be shown in some specific reginal area. For instance, getting a visitor from Austalia to your New York restaurant web site really doesn't do you much good. Information on the web is still highly unstructured and local search is an attempt to solve this problem.
This also gives an opportunity to start-up companies such as ademand.com (a free adveritising with images website). Since they are just starting up, they have more flexibility in the offerings and growth. Time will tell who the eventual winner of local search and free advertising will be.
