Nintendo will port Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii
Oct 11, 2007

Nintendo and Capcom have confirmed that the successful Monster Hunter title for Sony's PSP platform is to be ported on the Wii platform, after Capcom ran into some cost-related problems concerning PS3 development.

Nintendo confirmed that gamers will get to hunt monsters using the Wiimote once Capcom is finished developing for the Wii the third installment in the Monster Hunter franchise.

It appears that Capcom's initial plans favored Sony in detriment of Nintendo, with a possible port of the game on the PlayStation 3. However, with the costs for developing PS3 games on an ascending curve, Capcom decided to go ahead with porting MH3 on the Wii, which also immerses players more into the gameplay.

A report from Thompson Financial News quotes Capcom's Katsuhiko Ichii as saying, "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title."

Nintendo's fall 2007 conference concluded with the Wii-MH3 news, but the peak of the event was represented by other three major announcements, referring to the expansion of the Fire Emblem franchise on the DS and the future debut of two new games for the Wii, Super Mario Stadium Baseball and Wii Music.

Monster Hunter 1&2 are among the most popular PSP titles in Japan, having sold more than 1 million copies each since their respective launch.   [archive]
